Explicitly teaching students HOW to decode and encode the words we are expecting them to read and spell should NOT end in 2nd grade….or 5th grade…. or 9th grade… or 11th grade. The English language is complex and instruction into its many intricacies should not stop… I’ve been learning for 30 years!
